What is Thai Massage?

An ancient traditional healing modality used in Thailand for centuries, Thai Massage combines acupressure, energy meridian work, yoga-like stretching, using no oil or lubricants, it is performed on a mat on the floor, done fully clothed. Some say it is like someone is “doing yoga to you.”

This complex theoretical science of Ayurveda, an ancient medical discipline, is combined with an almost informal art form, learned orally through generations, therapists placing the body in specific physical poses and transitional flows, while using finger, thumb, elbow, foot or knee pressure to apply acupressure in a rocking rhythmic flow along meridian lines for the purpose of promoting healing through reduced stagnation, increased blood circulation, and increased Chi (energy) flow.

What is the key to a good Thai Massage?

Ø Meditation - An opportunity for you to center yourself, practitioner too! Calming the body, mind and spirit is the key to change.

Ø Self - Begins with the Practitioner’s own body mind awareness.

Ø Metta - All Thai Massage focus is based on this LOVING KINDNESS and COMPASSION.

Ø Body Mechanics - Knowing how to use my body weight, versus applying brute strength, allows me to use your body weight and mine, to move your body into different positions, and to flow smoothly through a session.

Ø Breath - Using your breath, as I do mine, in either coordination with moves, or positions, or to relax a bit deeper facilitates relaxation and release.

“The Thai Massage is a meditative dance that from moment to moment creates a healing experience.”     Kam Thye Chow, Lotus Palm School
